Journey of my life:
QUICK REVIEW OF MY
TEACHING CAREER:
After completing
Master in Science, I started my career as a teacher in Sir Syed School and then
Sir Syed College Wah Cantt Pakistan from 1970 to 1988.
For a short time my services were hired by HMC/HFF Taxila
Pakistan (09/1988 to 03/1990).
In April, 1990, I moved to Brunei Darussalam and worked
on contract bases under the Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam. I stayed
in Brunei Darussalam from April 1990 to November 2003. It was my first chance
to have a closer look of the education system of another country.
Since December 2003 I have been staying in Auckland New
Zealand. Here I completed Bachelor of Social Work (Biculturalism in practice)
and worked in the multiethnic society of New Zealand. It was a good opportunity
to get awareness of multifarious domestic, social, economic, health issues of
the common people of Aotearoa New Zealand.
In 2009, I decided to join Faculty of Education
University of Auckland and completed Graduate Diploma in Teaching. During this
programme I studied Curriculum of New Zealand. I visited various
schools/colleges and met with the schools communities. This was a unique experience
that I feel is more beneficial for the schools/college of my first
country than New Zealand.
My views about teaching:
I
am a teacher at heart, and there are moments in the classroom when I can hardly
hold the joy. When my students and I discover the uncharted territory to
explore, when the pathway out of a thicket opens up before us, when our
experience is illuminated by the lightening-life of the mind then teaching is
the finest work I know. (Palmer, 1998)
I
believe in “Excellence through Education”. The important part of the teacher’s
work is to nurture students and to manage information in such a way that each
student achieves maximum intellectual, social, physical, emotional and
spiritual growth.
The children should be provided with a
warm, safe and nurturing environment, which celebrates diversity and
individuality. Such an environment is
crucial for children to form responsive, reciprocal, positive and encouraging
relationships.
It is important to collaborate with
children and to understand the values of individuals and their families. By
actively listening to children, they can be empowered to develop the social,
physical and communication skills they will need in life.
The potential of each child can be
developed by providing challenging learning experiences that encourage
problem-solving, reasoning, planning, imagination, creativity and
curiosity. Furthermore, by fostering
friendship, co-operation and respect, independence and mutual trust can be
nurtured in children.
‘Beacon’ - Charagh e rah(چرآغ راہ )
Pakistan
is a very fertile country in respect of its natural resources including manpower.
Young generation is its future. It is imperative to educate our children to
prepare them to face the challenges of the 21st century. Majority of
our population is in the rural areas. They are badly in need of basic education.
A real Islamic republic of Pakistan can only be established on the world map by
educating the masses to enhance the literacy rate and to bring real positive
change in our society. Number one issue
of Pakistan is to educate our children. Give them basic education to be
independent. It is a long discussion… there are many questions to be answered...
I would only add if there is a will there is way.
